Notes
- ●You can make a Pareve version of the cake by using non-dairy whipping cream (one small container) instead of the sour cream, and margarine instead of the butter.
- ●Be careful when filling the molds to bake the cake — this cake expands a lot while baking and has often overflowed and spilled onto the floor of the oven.
- ●The walnut, sugar, and cinnamon mixture can be prepared separately in a pull-cord chopper: add the whole nuts with the sugar and cinnamon, then powder the nuts using the chopper.
- ●The family has never put fruit on top of this cake — neither the baker, Savta, Nana, Uncle David, nor Aunt Ida ever added fruit as a topping.
- ●This recipe originally comes from Aunt Ida (Nana's sister). At the wedding of Ida to Benny, their common grandmother Bubbe Charna met Nana and told her she had a boy for her — and that is how the family started and grew. (Ida's husband, Uncle Benny, was a cousin of Nana's husband, Grandpa Charlie/Shepsa.)
