Ingredients

  • 2 cups (480ml) canned chick peas - drained and mashed.
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3ml) salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1ml) hot pepper sauce
  • shortening for deep fat frying
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1ml) pepper
  • 2 cups fine dry bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) melted shortening
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

    To the mashed chick peas add all ingredients except melted shortening and eggs. Stir thoroughly.

    Add eggs which have been beaten.

    Stir in melted shortening.

    Shape mixture into balls about 1" to 1 1/2 inch in diameter.

    Roll balls in crumbs.

    Fry a few at a time in deep hot fat for 2 or 3 minutes until golden brown.

    Remove with a slotted spoon and dry on absorbent paper.

    Makes 15 balls.
